🏎️ Lap Legends - A Small F1 Game That Got Out of Hand

This whole project started because a colleague at work built a top-down drifty F1 game… and I thought, “I want to make one too, but maybe with slightly less accidental Tokyo-Drift energy.”

So I built Lap Legends - a clean, fast, lightweight browser racer where the focus is simple: hit your marks, beat your time, and enjoy the satisfying rhythm of clean laps.

It’s not trying to be a full simulation. It’s not trying to be realistic.
It’s just meant to feel good - responsive steering, predictable grip, no drifting even if you push hard, and ghosts that gently remind you you’re not as fast as you thought.

🏁 Chase the Leaderboard

Only the top 10 laps are saved globally.
If you’re not fast enough, you won’t make the cut.
A bit harsh? Maybe.
Motivating? Absolutely.

👻 Race Against Ghosts

Pick any race track and race the leaderboard ghosts.
No rubber-banding.
No AI cheats.
Just someone else’s perfect line challenging you to do better.

⚡ Physics You Can Trust

The car behaves the way you expect - it’s grounded, readable, and intentionally grippy.

✨ Finishing Flair

Skid marks fade. Sparks fly on hard impacts.
The finish banner pops up with a soft bounce.
There’s even confetti, because sometimes you deserve to feel good.

🎯 Why I Made This

Because sometimes you see a cool idea and think:
“I wonder what my version of that would look like?”

And sometimes that small question turns into several late nights, a custom physics engine, a binary ghost replay system, and an online leaderboard.

Worth it.
